October 2, 2011
Benny was 26 years old when he passed away.
He was my 10th grade Homecoming date.
Benny played soccer and lacrosse.
He loved nature.
He loved to travel.
Benny was a firm believer in natural healing and was in touch with his Native American roots.
Some might consider him a Hippie. I’m pretty sure he actually was a Hippie.
Benny never had a Myspace of Facebook because he thought it was a crappy and cheap way to keep in touch with people. He would rather call. I agree with him.
He was tall and skinny and had ears that stuck out a little that he used to be embarrassed about.
I loved those ears.
Ben was a faithful friend. So faithful that one time, he told one of my ex-boyfriends that I was going to break up with him because they were good friends and he didn’t think it was right to keep that information from him. I wasn’t too happy about that at the time but it really shows a true picture of his genuine character.
It is never easy to say good-bye to someone so young. It never seems fair. It is definitely one of the reasons that makes his passing so hard.
But, Benny lived life to it’s fullest. I believe that Benny’s time on earth was an AMAZING adventure. He saw and experienced things that I will most likely never get to experience.
Ben had Lymphoma.
Lymphoma is dumb.
I love you Ben Nickerson. You left a mark on the world. You left an impression on my life and all of those who knew you. I am blessed to have known you. Sad to see you leave. Hopeful to meet again.
